Thank you for considering the HHS Governor’s STEM Academy.  We are thrilled that you are interested in joining us for your high school experience.

Harrisonburg High School Governor’s STEM Academy educates a diverse group of students with a variety of interests, strengths, and backgrounds, to be academic and technical leaders in STEM related fields by creating a culture of collaboration and dynamic participation through integration of multiple disciplines and technologies. Students will choose a distinct pathway involving advanced coursework concentrating in their chosen area. It is one academy with three distinct programs.

We accomplish our goals by providing:

  • ·An opportunity to take advanced classes in math, science, computer science, health care, and engineering.
  • ·Use of integrated computer skills.
  • ·Projects and research requiring application of knowledge, skills, teamwork, and communication.
  • ·Field experiences and mentoring options for making connections between school and the workplace.
  • ·A focus on developing academic skills and communication through participation and presentation at local and state conferences.
  • ·Information to make informed decisions on their future educational and career plans.

Students are accepted by an application process as rising ninth graders. Students admitted will take specific cohorted courses (all the students in the class are STEM Academy students) as well as certain required courses beyond simple graduation requirements. For a detailed view of the plan of studies, pathways, and other information , take a look at different pages on this site.

Please feel free to contact the Directors of the Governor’s STEM Academy if you have questions, for clarification or assistance with the application process.

Additional Information

We will be accepting up to 72 students from the pool of entering ninth-graders into the Technology & Engineering and the Mathematics & Science programs and another 40 students into the Health Care pathway.   Those not selected will be placed on a waitlist.
