Harrisonburg City Schools is proud to offer a strong language program from grades K-12, including: 

FLES (Foreign Language in the Elementary School)
Spanish classes offered on a rotation basis for approximately one hour a week at Stone Spring Elementary School. 

Dual Language
Students spend half their day in Spanish and half their day in English. Currently offered at five of our six elementary schools (Bluestone, Keister, Smithland, Spotswood, and Waterman). 

Spanish 1-5, French 1-4, American Sign Language 1-4, Arabic 1-3, Italian 1-3
High-school credit language classes offered at HHS. Spanish 1 is offered in 8th grade as well.

Spanish for Heritage Speakers 1-3
High-school credit language classes targeted at students for whom Spanish is a significant language in their life. Offered at our high school with level one also available at our middle schools. 

AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature
Advanced Placement courses offered at our high school.

Language Credit by Exam
For students who learned to write and speak a language outside of school to show their proficiency and earn high school credits. Sign up through your high school counselor.

Virtual Virginia
Offering online high-school credit language classes in American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, French, Latin, and Spanish.

Independent Study
Offered by special request to high school students who wish to complete SOL course requirements in a language not offered at the high school. Previous independent studies have included Hebrew, Japanese, and Portuguese.
