Dear Families,
I hope this finds you safe and well. As you know, the first quarter of the school year concludes November 2. One week later on November 9, report cards will be mailed home. Each report card will provide insight into how students are performing in their coursework along with attendance information. The report card will also be a catalyst for additional conversations, and we invite you to reach out to teachers and staff for additional clarity and guidance as you seek ways to support learning and performance.
Report cards for elementary students for Quarter 1 will contain performance information in narrative form and will not have traditional grades. These narrative comments will provide specific information about academics and behavior including descriptions of strengths and struggles.
Secondary students’ report cards will contain grades along with some narrative. Grades are based on the extent to which your student mastered the material that was taught. Keep in mind that, in some cases, grades for this quarter are based on limited information. However, in all cases, performance can be improved.
If you need assistance with interpretation or translation of a report card, please reach out to your home school liaison or The Office of Family and Community Engagement at (540) 437-5017.
We acknowledge that remote learning is a challenge for almost all students. As time has gone on, students and teachers are settling into new routines, clearer expectations, and working out problems with technology tools. We continue to make a significant effort to support the social and emotional needs of students and to respond to family needs for technological and learning support. Please know that we value the feedback you provide. Please continue to connect with us. Together, we can provide a pathway for success.
With best regards,
J.Patrick Lintner
Chief Academic Officer
